Personal Profile 

Dr. Xiaowei Zhang is professor, doctoral supervisor and vice chair of Department of Biochemistry and Biophysics, Peking University Health Science Center. She serves as member of the National Planning Teaching Materials Review Committee for medical postgraduates of national institutions of higher learning, director of Beijing Society of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, and executive editorial board of Advances in Physiological Science. Her main research direction is the molecular mechanism and application of cell senescence and tumorigenesis, and she has made important discoveries in the field of senescence and tumor research. She published papers in highly impacted scientific journals includingMol Cell Biol., J Biol Chem., Oncogene, Nucleic Acids Res.et al. As a sub-project leader, she participated in a National Major Research Plan 973 Project; as the project leader, she presided over a number of projects such as the National Natural Science Foundation of China and the Natural Science Foundation of Beijing. She won the first prize of the Natural Science Award of the Ministry of Education. She participated in the compilation of 8 unified textbooks. She acted as chief editors of 《Medical Molecular Biology》(third edition), of 《Biochemistry》(English version), chief translator of 《Biochemistry》.

Research of Focus

Main researchdirection：molecular mechanism and application of cell senescence and tumorigenesis.

It was found that transcription factor HBP1 is a key molecule in the process of cell senescence and tumorigenesis, and inducing cell senescence is one of the important mechanisms of inhibiting tumorigenesis.
