Personal profile

My lab is dedicated to the development of small animal models for Hepatitis E Virus (HEV) and the study of viral pathogenesis and cross-species transmission mechanisms. The following original achievements have been made: ① Established an immunocompetent acute HEV-1 infection  gerbil model, updating the understanding of HEV-1 susceptible host range, and utilized the model to reveal HEV release mechanisms and refine the viral life cycle; ② Developed an immunosuppressed chronic HEV-3 infection rabbit model, using the model to uncover chronic infection mechanisms and identify potential predictive indicator, aiding in the development and application of diagnostic, preventive, and therapeutic strategies; ③ Proposed a new paradigm for constructing animal models of hepatitis virus infection based on a lipid nanoparticle delivery system. I have published research papers as the first or corresponding author (including co-authorship) in  PNAS  (2025),  Gastroenterology  (2024),  Gut  (2017, 2020, 2025),  Hepatology  (2022a, 2022b, 2023), and  Journal of Virology  (2019, 2024). I am the PI of several grants, including National Key R&D Program and the General Program of the National Natural Science Foundation of China, and has been selected for the Excellent Youth of NSFC, Young Elite Scientists Sponsorship Program by the China Association for Science and Technology. Building on previous work, my current interests are: elucidate the key mechanisms determining the host range of HEV; the establishment of an immunocompetent HEV infection mouse model; the establishment of mouse infection models of other major human-pathogenic viruses.
