AMPA receptor synaptic plasticity and related brain disorders

Personal profile

Dr. Yong Zhang is a Principal Investigator in the Department of Neurobiology School of Basic Medical Sciences, Peking University, and IDG/McGovern Institute for Brain Research at PKU. Dr. Zhang received his Ph.D. degree in Biochemistry, Cellular and Molecular Biology (BCMB) from the Johns Hopkins University. After postdoctoral training with Dr. Richard Huganir in the Department of Neuroscience, Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, Dr. Zhang Joined Peking University as a faculty member in 2016. The long-term goal of the Zhang lab is to elucidate the neural mechanisms underlying synaptic plasticity and learning and memory in the brain in both health and disease. The Zhang Lab has published a series of papers in  Neuron (2025), PNAS (2021, 2023), Journal of Neuroinflammation (2023), PLoS Biology (2021),  etc. Dr. Zhang has received a number of honors and awards, including the Peking University “Zhengda” teaching award for excellence, the W. Barry Wood Jr. Research Award (Johns Hopkins Young Investigators’ Award), the Chinese Government Award for Outstanding Self-Financed Students Abroad. Currently, Dr. Zhang also serves as senior editor for  Neuroscience -The IBRO Journal, and editor for  Neuroscience Bulletin.
