报告人简介:
Dr. Thomas P. Burris was raised in suburban St. Louis and attended Southern Illinois University obtaining a B.A. in chemistry (magna cum laude) in 1989 after 3 years of study. He completed a Ph.D. in molecular biophysics in 1993 from Florida State University after which he continued his training in the field of molecular endocrinology at Baylor College of Medicine and UCLA School of Medicine. He began his focus on the pharmacology of nuclear receptor action in the laboratory of Dr. Bert O’Malley in 1993 and has remained in this field since that time. After a decade of focusing on nuclear receptor drug discovery in the pharmaceutical industry (Johnson & Johnson and Eli Lilly and Company), Dr. Burris returned to academia in 2006 and holds the rank of Professor at The Scripps Research Institute in the Departments of Molecular Therapeutics & Metabolism and Aging. Dr. Burris’ research focuses on the chemical biology of nuclear hormone receptors and he has made numerous contributions to biomedical research focusing on development of drugs to treat metabolic diseases, inflammation and cancer.
